Welcome to the Skowhegan Free Public Library

In 1887 Abner Coburn left funds to the Skowhegan Library Association, so that a library might be erected in the town. The project was soon under way and in 1889 the Skowhegan Free Public Library was born.

The library contains a dedicated children's room upstairs, as well the first floor Memorial Reading Room, which commemorates the actions of those Skowhegan townsmen who served in the Civil War. The public also has access to a computer lab, conference room, and genealogy collection in the basement.

The Skowhegan Free Public Library seeks to serve the needs of a diverse population by providing
innovative programming, robust collections, and responsive services. Our aim is to bring people
together to foster creativity, and encourage lifelong learning through community and cultural
engagement.
